Step right up, win a premium Wordpress theme
A couple weeks back we reviewed a gentleman by the name of Adriaan Pienaar, a “Wordpress Rockstar” in the making. Adii was kind enough to contact us recently and offer one of his goodies to a YGG reader (that sounds so wrong). His Premium News theme for Wordpress is up for grabs.
This theme, which retails for $99, is an extremely well articulated magazine layout and includes all the plug-ins you need to make it work like a charm with all it’s Ajaxy goodness. You can see and demo Premium News here.
Like we mentioned in Adii’s review, transforming Wordpress into more of a CMS, and replicating elements of magazines is a huge trend that’s just starting to take off.
So how do you be an early adopter of this trend? Easy. Post a comment here, telling us where, how, and why you’d use the Premium News theme. This coming Friday morning we’ll pick one of you young go getters’ comments and Adii will send you the theme. That’s it. A quick and simple little contest.
So who wants a premium theme?

This is a beautiful looking theme. I’ve been planning for some time to start a news blog featuring articles about my home state - Alaska - and this theme would be absolutely perfect. The ample space provided for images in this theme would be perfect for showcasing the raw, natural beauty of Alaska.

My name is Satish, and I want the Premium News theme Wordpress Rockstar dude and YGG folks.
I would use the theme in my much-needed revamp of http://skanwar.blogspot.com. I started the blog a few months ago with the hopes to share my thoughts, ideas, and opinions with the world on marketing and technology.
Much opposed to my liking, it didn’t really work so well. Many have told me my biggest weakness was not using Wordpress and the inflexibility of Blogger. That’s the first place this theme comes in to save the day.
I’ve also become more knowledgeable on the art of the niche when it comes to all of this. That’s something I have to rethink and determine, but I think the fact that it is indeed the news theme will me help refocus and narrow the choices. How’s that for the second use of the theme?
Nowadays it’s all about being more than just a blog. YGG does that well with all the other undertakings here. Adriaan does that well combining it with his services and portfolio. I want to do just that.
Essentially having this premium theme will help prescribe what my next undertaking online will become - something I’ll invest tons of time into alongside my colleagues from my university, my agency, and my networks.
What I can say is that it’ll be in the domain of marketing, technology, entrepreneurship, and awesomeness. Who wouldn’t want to see this theme get put to that kind of use?
With all that said… I want a premium theme… please. I’ll draw some attention to this comment by putting a tweet out on http://twitter.com/skanwar.
Thanks.

Awesome theme. Seeings as he seems to be into pretty decent music - one of his themes is in fact called ‘Your revolution is a joke’ (FFAF) - I would love to use it to make a website about loud music and gigs!

Pretty decent music @ Adam!? :) Those are some insane bands on the demo page!
@ Satish - that is quite an essay you wrote there and I’m sure you will put the theme to good use if you win a copy.
@ Brandon - pretty theme, pretty place = not a bad idea! :)

For almost 2 years I have run a non-profit devoted to connecting young professionals with established professionals in my city. We began this effort to help combat the onset of “brain drain” in which baby boomer’s leave the workplace and take their valuable knowledge with them.
Throughout my time developing the organization I have realized the need for a broader reach through a media outlet. My co-founder and I have a business plan in place to provide a newspaper/magazine styled website to young professionals covering the lifestyle that they live day-to-day. This theme would greatly help by providing a solid platform for delivering content to our young go getter audience.
Thanks for offering this contest YGG. This is great! I look forward to seeing the winner.

Let first start out by saying that I am DYING to win this theme.
I am planing on launching an online magazine as an offshoot of my current blog Lenzism.com. The new magazine will be called Addicted To Fresh and have an urban pop culture theme and will cover tops such as Entertainment, Music, Fashion, Financial and more.
I have already used my blog Lenzism to create a small blog network of 3 other quality blogs and plan to leverage that network to drive traffic to the new magazine. I also attend Howard University and am a journalism student and have been posting fliers soliciting budding student writers to join the team. All I have been thinking about for the last few months is how to do it and wanted to have a solid idea by the end of November and I feel like it was fate that this post was the fist one I saw in my FeedReader!
The Premium News theme wold be PERFECT. I was going to try to do one myself but have been unable to devote enough time to learning wordpress as I am on Blogger now and have been wanting to make the transition for a few months now.
PLEASE PICK ME! I will put the theme to great use and if/when I am successful the success will be shared with Adii and YGG! Also, i’m a poor college student and don’t have an extra $100!
Thank you for your consideration.

This is an amazing theme. We could sure use it as we are in need of a blog makeover. Blogger templates have become lame and our cause and presence in the local community deserve better. This theme would definitely help us Rock For Hunger. Thanks Adii for reaching out to help the blogging community!

Wow this theme is beautiful. I’m already thinking of ways to use it in my current sites. My fingers are crossed :)

I’d love to win this Premium theme because:
1) I’m a broke graduate school student who 2) needs a premium theme to launch a new blog contest that will 3) generate traffic and buzz for my site, thepinkc, which has TONS of great content!
Soooooo, PICK ME!!!!!

Hey, this is an amazing theme. But why I prefer it for, is the code. that’s a so rich using of code, under wordpress. what I’d do with this ? I’d skin it. He is pure and justseem to be skinned. Check my portfolio. I’ll do my best to skin him as he wait for.

@ Satish - Switching from blogger to wordpress is a bitch. You’re better off staying with your old platform. Besides, how would your mom and dad find your new blog? Without them, you have no readers.
@ Adam Taylor - It’s called a MySpace profile.
@ CP - And I have cancer and my neighbors have loud sex that wakes me up before my alarm. We all have problems, but that ain’t gonna get you a theme.
@ Lenzy Betters - Make sure to take a grammar class before you graduate.
@ Greg - Are you looking for a hand up or a hand out? According to Bloglines, you have zero subscribers. Maybe it’s not the theme but the content?
@ Nicole Spag - We can’t see your t*ts, so you’re gonna have to do a whole lot better than that to win this one.
@ Ellie - Your blog is fine. You’re like the kid who gets a piece of candy on Halloween, puts it behind her back, and then innocently asks for another. Please step away from the mic.
@ Aaron - Not sure how many languages you used in that post of yours, but I’m pretty sure you’re gonna need more than a theme if you haven’t developed your domain in 5 months. By the way, if you’re having problems commenting correctly, I fear the torture you’d put this cute little theme through if you got your paws on it.
and FINALLY, @ azhard - you sound like a psycho killer. Nobody’s going to give you a blog theme so you can take it in to your lab and do dirty things with it.
So then there’s me: I am going to start a magazine styled blog about goulash, but from a business perspective. So many blogs about foods are focused on the people who eat it rather than those who produce it, and as a YGG, this is a niche I’m eager to fill.
I close with the words from one of the best tribute bands ever, BABBA: “Take a chance on me.”
Aaron said on November 7, 2007
Herm,
1. The band is Abba. If you are going to quote them get it right.
2. Azhard’s English is great because he is French. ‘m sure your French is worse than his English. Va te faire enculer. Look that up in the dictionary if you like.
3. Nice move not posting your url so we can’t visit your site and rip it to shreds.
4. Eric - bring out the Douche Bag logo for this guy.
Herm said on November 7, 2007
@ Aaron - Hey man, all in good fun. No need to resort to name calling (which, I might add, you did twice in your previous comment).
1. The band I was referencing, if you read my post carefully, was an ABBA tribute band. I know who sang it.
2. My comment to @azhard was not meant to disparage his country of origin. I was talking about his desire to skin the theme, which was a play on words. I looked up that French saying, and I’m surprised that YGG didn’t “douche” you as well for such an unsportsmanlike reply.
3. As I stated in my original comment, my goulash blog is not yet ready for public consumption, as it were. However, when it’s ready, I would be thrilled to have you critique it.
4. You got your award. Interesting to see the power of a “top commenter.”
I wanted to win the premium theme just like everyone else that posted before me, but I was trying to be a bit more creative.
Apologies to anyone that was offended.

What would I use this layout for? What wouldn’t I would be a more apt question. LOL
My first project would be a sci-fi/fantasy/horror website that I’m in the process of putting together featuring a staff of female writers riffing on topics generally written about by men. It’ll incorporate news, reviews, video clips and more, and 10% of all ad revenue will be donated to charity.
After that, I have a huge list of projects this theme would be good for. :)

We’re looking to redesign our current site. We launched the initial site with no wordpress knowledge and have created something that has gained a lot of traction and momentum. I think that this theme will give our site the dynamic push it needs. And who can say no to doing good and having fun at the same time!

This a great theme. Thoughtfully planned out and full of info. I’d use the theme for a new project I’m developing. The project includes a new fashion-related video series as well as video of helpful fashion and beauty tips and an online directory/shopping guide to local boutiques.
The layout is perfect for the content we want to present, esp. the video area, advertising area and featured article area. This theme is ideal for fashion and beauty related site.

Gents,
I’d like to bring some structure to my blog ‘ideas for conversations’.
The blog would be two-pronged; 1) for all those who want to give away their ideas for free (like myself and my friends) on the off chance it sparks a conversation with someone who honestly believes it just might work, and 2) for all those who’ve thrown money at something that either worked or didn’t, but have a cool story to tell about it.
The rest of the tabs would be devoted to different parts of the ideation process (names used are temp) i.e. stuff that sparks (links to places on the web), stuff that’s changing (new market developments), stuff that hits (an analysis on viral ideas), etc.
It’s pretty simple. Mostly I’m just tired of people booking coffee meetings with me. ;) (just kidding guys, please keep asking… I have a shortage of friends outside of Facebook).

@Herm: “Apologies to anyone that was offended.” Very creative. I’m pretty sure that got you in top place ;)

I’d love to win it, but I’d also consider buying it if there was a way to pull the content from multiple sites. Right now my site is set up in such a basic way, it would be nice to give it more of a portal feel. So I’d like to know if there is a way to use this theme but have it pull content from each of the blogs in my network. That probably wasn’t the best way to explain it but if you look at my site you might get a better feel for what I am saying.
Travis said on November 8, 2007
Hey DJ,
You can tie in a plugin called SimplePie that’ll allow you to syndicate content from your other sites and customize how it appears to fit Adii’s theme, if you win of course, or choose to buy a copy. :)
I use Simplepie on another one of my sites and it’s quite easy to use.

This Premium News theme is so sleek that you won’t think it’s actually a coded site your reading and not just a blog running on a blogging software. If I could win this Premium News Theme, I’ll use it on a site that I’ll be running for our non-stock, non-profit organization.
It’s so cool!
