I'm not trying to build a hospital or anything but it just popped up in my head. Just out of pure brainstorming and creative fun, what do you think it takes to build a hospital? Your 2 cents on the essentials.

    Hey Audarius,

This doesn’t pertain to building a hospital, however is does relate to the medical field. I was going to start a new discussion, but I figured I would drop it in here, since we’re on the medical subject. I have a passion for helping people and I have spent a few weeks trying to design new products for the medical field, however that has been uneventful.

If you had consider this field and have any ideas you would like to through on the table not just designing new products, but creating any type of business that could actually help people in the medical industry or for that matter in general or it could be an existing business that needs fine tuning.

Audarius, back to your question, I would estimate 8-10 billion. If you think that is outrages, check out the prices of CT/RT scanners. They average 1-10 million.

I have no clue, but I do know that areas are only allowed a certain number of hospitals dependent on regulations.

Healthcare REITs are doing fairly well. See this article: http://news.morningstar.com/article/article.asp?id=174608 [I think it is free to public.. I have a premium account, though.]

In the UK hospitals are uaually built through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) - where the government and one or more private companies form a partnership. I did it in business studies a while ago so I can't really remember much more.. Wiki it!

Essentials......money and a way to get more money. Then a good plan based on previously successful hospitals.

Adarius-This is somewhat medically related, I am working providing a place (site) for group home (for physically and mentally disabled, and mentally ill-children and adults) staff to go to get support and resources to be better staff and to not burn out. This in turn will provide a higher quality of life for those who are dependent on staff to have a life at all.

I would also like to add that the health care industry in general is probably going to be a good place to be in the next 10-20 years with the aging population. Also means you will have a lot of competitors, too.

Screw the hospital. Save on start up, hassles w/ patients, and meds by opening up a funeral home. Takes care of the baby boomers in 15-20years at a heck of a lot cheaper price. Sounds harsh but true.

Ok so money... Does anybody have any ideas as to where to get the money? As a non-profit hospital it would probably be supported by foundations and donors. As a for-profit hospital, investors. How would you get the money?

Draft a solid business plan, go to a bank or private equity investor firms.

This is one of those projects that would take major resources to get done. It isn't just a weekend job. It would take a lot of research into the market and costs and developing a healthy building (air systems, etc). No easy job. Could be done, though.
