The last time I did any real sizable donation was when I was selling bootleg shoes via my website and Katrina hit. I started donating 15% of all profits to the Red Cross directly from the Red Cross website. I did it in my customers name and sent them the receipt so that they received the tax credit.

My wife and I did a fundraiser for the Alberta Cancer Foundation's Mary Johnston Research Fund. They fund Canada's first chair in melanoma (skin cancer) research. Check out the site here

We raised about $20K last year doing this (final tally wasn't updated on the site).

I do. I donate as things come along. Last thing I donated to was the Terry Fox Foundation last month and I think Katrina Relief before that. I intend to donate alot of time and energy to charity in the future as well.

I never thought about putting it in the customers name so they recieved the tax credit. How did you do that?

I just donated it using the information that went along with their purchase. They were then E-mailed a receipt directly from the Red Cross for their records.

We donate between $5,000 and $7,500 to Special Olympics every year through our golf tournament and have done so for about 17 years or so now.

I work with mentally and physically disabled adults and will buy residents things or something for the house when there is a need and no funds available. I donate a lot of photos of the residents and their activities.

I lean towards children's cancer donations since my son is a survivor. We have a box for the teen patients we would put small gift cards in. The little kids had a big toy box they could pick a toy out of after treatment, but the teens had nothing. I donate platlettes (NOT plasma). Its related to seeing kids get transfusions while my son was in treatment. It takes 5 bags of blood to get one bag of platelettes.

I also donate to the children's and youth programs at the church my daughters attend, when I can.

General rule of thumb in varied circles is 10% of your income and/or time.

I volunteer with youths running sports programs.

Last year I wanted to start a charity to help provide more sports programs and fun equipment for underprivleged inner city youths. Never got off the gound due to lack of knowledge. Writing this has just rekindled my interest in this idea!

I'm kinda random with my charity donations.

Like this year, I have participated in Aids Walk and Race for the Cure. I also have been randomly donating money when I'm at the grocery store, to breast cancer - not a lot, but some here and there.

And I'm part of a group called Acres of Love that builds and operates homes in South Africa for children with AIDS. Went to SA last year to take 10K worth of supplies we got donated from Target. I participate in fundraiser development...and will be going back to SA in July of 07.

I would love to do something with adults and computer education, but I got involved with the Urban League about 6 years ago, and was soooooooo turned off by how disorganized it was. That's a future plan.
