    I mean really folks.

I just broke my 32MB USB drive that I use to transport documents to and from work (mostly personal stuff like a savings spreadsheet, etc.). Yes, yes, I know. 32MB? Old school. Yea. And cheap. Met my needs. [Btw, the inside of a USB drive is pretty freaking cool.]

So I need a new drive. I look at Techbargains, Staples, and Office Depot. Staples has a 1GB for $17.99 with instant savings. I do a little bit more digging and find this amazing deal at buy.com:

SimpleTech 2GB Bonzai Xpress USB 2.0 Flash Drive - $50.47
Sign up for Google Checkout and get $10 off a $30 order at Buy.com = $40.47
    $25 rebate = $15.47 for a 2GB Drive.

    Sweet action! Shipped free. :)

Nice. I have a 2GB Cruzer for work - can't live without it there :) At home, a 512MB suffices.

It was quite amusing back in school - while the rest of the crew were plugging in their 32mb flash drives I was plugging in the recently launched 3G 20GB ipod :)

Are usb keys really worthwhile? I'm normally a techy kinda guy but I have never had one.

I used my ipod back in college as well. The USB key came in handy when I had to work on a PC for whatever reason. But between the Mac labs my iPod did the job.

There are quite a few companies out there that offer at least 1GB of free storage (streamload offers 25GB for free, with $0.02 per GB up and $0.10 per GB down). Then again, most of those are API-driven, so that'd do you no good.

Hell, in Asia, broadband is often faster than a full speed USB 2.0 port, and sometimes faster than a high speed USB 2.0 (common packages are 100Mbps, with options of up to 1Gbps).
