This video has been doing the rounds lately, with an amazing 450,000 views racked up so far.

The word is that the student is sueing the police for their abuse of power. I reckon he won't do too badly out of it.

His lawyer has spoken on all the big news networks. It'll be settled out of court and he won't have to work for many years to come.

My cousin has been tasered... He was a cop for a few years (requirement to move up to detective status). You can find videos on YouTube of people being tasered at the police academy, they have all sorts of fun with it, LOL.

Even so, I think a lot of cops are too quick to pull out the taser. This guy clearly wasn't a threat, and was handcuffed while being tasered. One thing cops need to understand is that when you get tasered, you aren't (and in some cases CAN'T) get up for at least 5-10 seconds. The electricity builds up lactic acid in your muscles, and gives you the same amount of pain as would get the day after a very heavy work out (except this is your entire body).

This is why tasers have little effect on people who are high on drugs - their adrenaline counteracts the effects of lactic acid, and they can keep going. However, that's not to say that someone high on drugs can stick their finger in a light socket and live to tell about it.

I will tell you this, though - I would much rather be tasered than have the pepper spray. And yes, I would certainly live through what the UCLA guy lived through for anything north of $50K. ;-)

What an abuse of power. You can clearly hear the guy saying he would peacfully leave, but they just keep abusing him. Some cops need to get rid of the god complex I feel sometimes, they feel they can do whatever because of the position they are in. They are still public servants and that wasn't helping anyone out....

Cops are like any other position on this planet. They are really great eggs, and there are really really bad eggs. Unfortunately, in a position of power the bad eggs stand out more and can do worse damage. A solid example.

A few thoughts of my own on the subject. Eric I agree I was outraged and wanted to kick the cops a** that instant.

    1. The guy is a geeky college student at the computer lab. It's not like the 4 or 5 cops that were there couldn't have just carried him out. It's not like he was a member of the football team that could have taken all 5 of them.

    2. It's a college computer lab.

    3. 2+3= being able to logically talk to the guy and get him out of the building. Cops need a class in common sense and conversation. Had they just talked to the guy and heard him out I'm sure that would have defused the situation.

    4. The crowd there should have mobbed those cops. There is no place in society for us to allow abuses of power like that. Even if he gets his money psychologically that does something to people when they just let themselves and others get walked on by the administrative powers. It's one thing to obey the law and another to tolerate abuses of power.

    5. The cops should have the same done to them and then they should lose their jobs.

If the people there had mobbed the cops, they would have been arrested to with interferring with police "work" and probably assualt on an officer. That would have just caused more trouble and more people getting tased. Assholes.

you are right that's what would have happened but they still should have mobbed those cops. Plus only a few of them would have been arrested because 4 cops can't catch everyone. It's just wishful thinking anyway.

I was thinking the same thing...all those people should have brought the pain to 'em. What an outrage!

That situation is not relevant. The "groom" rammed a police van with his car 2x and hit a police officer with his car. Now it was probably excessive force but the car was definetly attacking the police offices and posed a serious threat.

Plus it's not like he was some geeky UCLA computer lab visiting student. He was coming out of a strip club in New York City. Not making any moral judgements but there is definetly a huge difference in the situations.

Ah... they must have updated the story then. Who knows? What if he just lost control of his car (drunk?). I'd still say 50 rounds being fired is a little excessive especially when no gun was found in his car.

    Anyways.
