    Hi YGGers,

I've decided to start up a blog on my favourite topic - finance and investing. The blog is called Investoid and it's about an hour old now.

There are some good bloggers out there in this field already, but there's a couple of things that I think I can do that are relatively uncommon:

    1) Go beyond the personal finance topics that most bloggers talk about and get into some more quantitative analysis of issues that affect typical investors.

    2) Provide specific stock recommendations a-la marketocracy, stockpickr and the like. These will all be one-off recommendations that don't take into account overall portfolio allocation, just stocks or other securities that I think can provide market beating returns. I'll give specific buy/sell/hold/short recommendations and have a running tally of how they're doing (no recommending without accountability).

I'd like to hear your comments on content, layout, etc. Thanks.

Sounds good, but have you asked a lawyer about how any of this stuff works? I know in Australia at least the financial industry is heavily policed and giving out recommendations isn't something that you can do without a certification.

I'm Ross Hill. I interview business folks at HatchThat.

I agree with Ross, you will get in allot of trouble...

You can’t give "recommendations" just opinions

Talk to a lawyer and get a good disclaimer

Yeah, the disclaimer's there. Our country has province by province securities regulators, each of which have their own definitions of what constitutes financial advice. I agree that the word recommendations could be an issue, so I'm going to change that to 'opinion'.

Basically I won't do anything that I couldn't do using something like Stockpickr or SocialPicks. The only reason I won't be putting it on there is because they only allow you to input US-listed stocks.

    Thanks for the comments.
