If your articles are good, start submitting them to blog carnivals to try and gain some exposure that way. Market the hell out of your site and try to make as many link exchanges as possible. SEO is always important when launching a new site so that you can get picked up quickly and easily by the search engines. After a couple months, if your still lacking in traffic, keep running with the site, writing good content, and trying to get as much exposure as possible. As time goes on your site will grow and so will your visitors.

SEO isn't a problem. The site is already a PR3 even though I haven't launched :) Hahaha... I'll be doing some other seo improvements to the template over time too but its ok for now.
I've put up links for delicious and stumbleupon. I might add digg later but I'm not really a fan of it right now. I've added to the default list of pinging services. I'll be emailing everyone I know and telling them about the site. I've put text at the bottom suggesting that people sign up to the email list and share the article with their friends. The emails will ask people to forward it on too. Adnan just got a guest post out of me so thats one link from a really relevant audience but I'll be looking for more.

I guess that's where I'm looking for tips. What works and what is a waste of time? I want what I'm doing to be effective. What am I missing?

From my experience, put a list together of relevant bloggers in your niche, send them each a personalized e-mail telling them how much you love their site, what they think of an article you recently wrote, and if they'd be willing to share it with their readers.
It helps if you give them a bit of traffic/appreciation as well. Maybe put a post together with the best of the best entries from the blogs you're targetting, and throw it up on your blog.
