Just wanted to see what you all thought about social shopping networks.

You think the market for them is saturated?

    Tough to get into?

Enough room to develop a niche inside the niche?

I think it's likely getting very saturated - so a better hook might work instead of a niche. Though honestly, I have to say I have my own ideas about a niche social shopping website, so I don't have much room to talk. I will say that I don't expect wild success with it (if I ever find time to build it!), but rather I am going to use it as an experiment to see what might work in a larger scenario.

I think the concept of social shopping web based services is going to be huge, though, and I'm not sure if anyone has done it right yet. I've been trying to get Imagekind artist to go market their independent work as items for sale at places like iliketotallyloveit. As well, Imagekind's founding parent company Curious Office Partners just invested in Wishpot, so maybe they are on to something?

Travis likes Imagekind and Nifty Pants.

I've never really gotten into them, but have studied SSN for a bit for one of my clients. I agree that it's a pretty saturated market.

In case you haven't seen it, here's a rundown of the major players in the game:
