Hi guys, in mid-December I relaunched Rogue Connect and I was hoping to receive some feedback on any part of it!

Rogue Connect is an exclusive social networking site. It's aimed at the 16-25 year old age range, though we don't discount people older than 25 from joining. Those under 16 can't due to our terms and conditions.

People apply for an account and it's up to other members to vote on them. If they receive a great percentage of yes votes to no votes, that person is approved and they are given full membership.

We've included features which appeal to the younger generation of net users, including folksonomy tagging and a group fashion blog. We're also working on a number of other features at the moment that will incorporate the likes of blogs and a few other things we'd like to keep under wraps for now.

It would be great to hear some feedback of any kind as it's a project that I'm really hopeful about

    Cheers, Daniel

I love the look! I think the vote-in or vote-out is a great concept too! Are you fully launched with initial members already?

Damn you're quick off the mark Eric!

It is essentially full launched, but our main notion is that the site is fluid. We've added about four features since we launched. By the end of this week we're hoping to fully expand one of them, and by the end of this month introduce another. We're aiming for a new feature, or good reworking, a month.

We've got around 1200 members at present.

The hardest thing is marketing the vote-in / vote-out system. We haven't quite worked out the way to best represent this, but the fact that we're exclusive has certainly generated some interest.

    Is the site free?

I understand how it would be hard to market that feature, especially to...well...lets not beat around the bush, ugly people. It's definately a kick in the ego-gut if you don't get allowed on the site and we all know that it's going to be because of some buckled looking pictures :) It's a harsh world out there isn't it?

BUT...if you just say "Rogue Connect - for pretty people" or something, you'll have the hot spot for hot people. I don't know...not my game, just my initial reaction to the idea I guess.

It is indeed free. We're using the tag line "Completely Free, Reassuringly Exclusive" at the moment in an attempt to communicate this. But I don't think the free message is working.

In terms of people getting approved, we're finding that members are only approving less than 50% of applicants since we've launched. The girls also get in a lot easier than guys.

We're working to be, yes. Facebook is a great concept and has an audience that we're heartily going after. They're doing well in the US, but I think they're failing to capitalise elsewhere. At present, and because I live in Australia, we've had great success on bringing on board Australian youths.

I think the site looks good and the vote thing is great, but off top you might still want to be able to slide of few people in so you can build up members, cause if you dont it will only have females then the females will get annoyed that there are so many of them and no guys to talk to maybe. Maybe the females should vote on the guys and the guys vot on the females. This way since so many people have different taste it should help even the playing field out to allow more members in.

Eric is right it will crush a few that will get denied but over all you will be known as the pretty network which will play in your favor for that niche market.

The site does look good though, good luck

We have tried to work this in to a degree. There isn't a set amount of votes you need to get to become a member, it's actually a percentage of positive votes over negative votes. Later on we'll rework it to reflect the larger membership base, but without real marketing we have to start somewhere.

I've extended another feature to the site on the past few hours - folksonomy tagging. All member profiles can now be tagged by the member and by other members.

Instead of having the typical search on the main page (as most social sites do) we've replaced it with the tagging tool.

Cheers Eric, I just hope it all pays off. We've got a few new features coming soon which should help continue the appeal of the site without being too much of a line extension.

Very true! We've set a pretty high wall with the site (and we're quite proud of it too!) So far, of all the sign ups less than 50% of people have made it behind the red rope. At present there are 112 people waiting to get in.

Eric, what would you think of a feature whereby after you voted you were invited to say why you voted that way, or leave a comment of some kind? For instance "I voted no because you don't have a photo".

Hmmm...that would be cool - but definately don't make it a REQUIREMENT to vote. Maybe just have a comment box under or above the YES/NO buttons and if you put something in there it posts to that user, if not, the vote still counts.

Yeah that's a cool way of going about it. I think it would be good to give the people applying a reason to come back and see what's a little off in the way they filled out their profile - some people fill out just the required fields (and there aren't that many of them) with one or two words and then send us e-mails asking why they haven't been given membership yet!
