I've been considering starting a press release service, as I think this is an underserved market and could turn into something pretty decent. Any suggestions or input? Thanks guys...

i think you will have to find a niche, becuase there are a lot of free online PR websites that let you submit to them. I have submitted to about 4 of them, and have since found my press release on about 10/15 sites.

But anything can work in you find a niche...

quick note to everyone, don't forget to change which service the press release is using on your press release, before copying and pasting into another site.

I got a press release rejected from prleap.com becuase I still had the words prweb.com.

All I had to do was change it and resubmit, but it was a waste of 5 minutes

I think pr services are an under developed market, and you could do well with it.

The free pr sites are not taken seriously by many people.

And many can stand to have some major improvements.

I think that you have your perfect target market right here, young entrepreneurs and small business owners that are looking to get their name out there. If you could offer a low cost and very effective service, at either a per release rate or monthly rate, I think you could easily make some money. I know I would be interested in trying out the service.

If you are serious about this and would want some help developing the website and concept some more, hit me up. I would be more than happy to join in on such a project.

I agree with Chris, we are the people to market this to. I would definitely think a per release rate is better than a monthly rate.

To do a press release service, don't you have to get cozy in bed with some news people? I mean, for an 'effective' press release service?

Effective press release distribution is very difficult to achieve- which of course means that if you do well with it it could be a much more lucrative enterprise.

Wow someone agrees with me. This is exciting 8)

Distribution would definitly be start up problem. You will need to find good contacts with different magazines and newspapers around the world pretty much. Sure submitting a press release to a magazine or newspaper is not hard, but actually getting it published is. I don't think that you would really have a problem with getting stuff published on the internet though because most webmasters are happy to publish articles for people or storys about start-ups and small businesses.
