How to Get Ahead in The World of Business
If you have been working in the business or finance industry for some time now and you are finding work life a little stale, how do you go about improving your working days?
For those looking to progress up the career ladder, there is still the age-old myth that to do this quickly and successfully, you need to show willing, being the first to arrive and last to leave.
Fortunately for us all, that’s no longer the case. There are in fact much better tips to utilize instead, including:
Don’t Take on More Than You Can Handle
Though you may think that looking extremely busy makes you look good, unfortunately, it can result in you becoming stressed and unable to focus productively if you’re accepting tasks for the sake of it.
The result will not be good, and the tell tales signs of stress will start to show to those you may be wishing to impress.
Refrain from Using Your Mobile During Work
I know that these days everyone has a mobile and more than often takes advantage of it during work time. However, while some may get away with it, do you really want to risk being seen on your phone by a senior member of staff?
Regardless of how many others use their phone at work, I’m pretty sure we can all live away from this tiny screen from 9 til 5!
Be Respectful of Everyone
This type of advice shouldn’t have to written down, but many abuse those members of staff they don’t feel are significant enough or in their pay grade.
I cannot stress enough how treating everybody with respect, regardless what role they play in the company, is crucial to merely be a decent human being.
No-one wants an ignorant person placed at the helm. Get along with everyone and be respectful and you’ll have no problems in getting a good response from your colleagues when you do make it to the top someday!
A good piece. I certainly agree with the no personal mobile use during work; I just wish more companies would implement it!
Me too Myleene! I think the problem is that so many people say it’s to do with work. Don’t recall Candy Crush being a part of my job description though!
Thanks Myleene and Seth. It’s about finding the balance isn’t it and, of course, not taking advantage of being allowed to have your mobile with you. Me personally, I hate seeing people who are meant to be working, so obviously checking their social media accounts. It doesn’t look good for business.
I think some people don’t even realize they’re doing it, Derek! I’m talking both young and old alike!
How true Roger, and that’s the problem companies now must contend with, unfortunately. It’s not just junior members of staff either, I’ve noticed!
