Just wondering if this is possible... if you've got a website, is it possible to type in a search, pull up the results, and then find out how far down your site is within the results?

    Completely made up example:
I search for "young entrepreneur forum" and if there are 1,000,000 results... how would I find out that YGG is #34 other than clicking page by page to get to the result?

There are tools around on SEO sites. It's definitely possible but I can't think of a good site right now.

While we are on the topic, what other tools does everyone use?

I found a write up of some here.

Apparently you need a Googleâ„¢ SOAP API Key for GoogleRankings which Google is not giving out any more so you can't find your google rank on that site unless you have one.

Yeah that's kind of lame - some of those tools in that write up are crap too. The projected search engine ranking tool has YGG as a PR3 and Blogtrepreneur as a PR0 - haha...ok not funny.

If you haven't got it yet you should definitely get the SEO for Firefox plugin from Aaron Wall.

The wordtracker data doesn't seem to be as good as overture to me, but at least it is something.

If you use the Firefox SEO plugin make sure you go into the settings for it and tailor it to the results that you want to see. I turned a lot of them off, and also a lot of them are now set to automatic so I don't have to click them to see stuff.

You can set a bunch of them to automatic and it shouldn't cause any problems. Remember that you can push the icon in the bottom right corner of the firefox window to disable the plugin while you are not in SEO mode :)
