I just ordered my first blackberry from ATT (the 8310 with GPS-something i definitely can live without, but why not). Got it for free from their cancellation department... Got the reps number, she told me to call her anytime i need a new phone, she can upgrade my account. Basically she said she can override the system and do whatever she sees fit. Im gonna be upgrading 3 of my other lines soon :D. God bless the cancelation department...

Nice! You're going to love it! An organized lifestyle is in your future :)
I use my Verizon 8830 to organize every aspect of my life and the e-mail management is absolutely priceless.

Not a fan, I like the HTC lineup better (currently have a AT&T 8925). So many more apps for Windows Mobile than Palm OS, Blackberry or iPhone. To each his or her own though: I have friends who prefer the Curve to all else. Congrats!

You hit the nail on the head, to each their own. You're right, there aren't as many 3 party programs for Blackberries.....yet. As RIM comes out with more and more devices with expandable memory slots, 3rd party software developers will make more programs available on Blackberries. I've got the 8830 as well, and love it. I'm a huge fan of Blackberry. I tried the Moto Q for a year, had no problems with it, but a lot of people I know didn't like the stability (or lack thereof, in their cases) of the OS. Everyone that needs devices, needs them for different purposes. Me personally, a Blackberry is great for what I need and would have a hard time parting with it. Let us know how you like it!!
Enjoy.

Ah, I love my normal non-text messaging, no pics sent phone :) I wish I had a 'berry, but won't pay the service charges for data.

So what accessories/protection do you guys recommend?

www.bestskinsever.com - The URL says it all. I live by these things. Get one for your iPod while you're at it. Super cool product.

make sure you get a nice leather case, usually comes with the device though. I got to tell you I love my bluetooth headset, comes in handy in so many ways.
And then maybe a microSD card for storing photos and music!

I got a nice leather case. The best one actually, a VAJA - cost an arm and a leg. While it was slim and looked nice, it acted much like a car bra acts. Once sand gets under the screens protective cover, it becomes sand paper and etches the screen to beat hell. It's worse than not having a case.
Get the Best Skins Ever skin. It's cheap, it's effective, and it adds virtually no bulk to the device.

I am going to check that site out Eric. Want a new skin.
Had to change back to a Blackberry 8830 as my 8130 (pearl) started having java errors.....

For the WM haterz, what didn't you guys like about it? Were you using a touchscreen version or the one without? With a non-touchscreen phone, I could see it being pretty hard to navigate and use. You also need a pretty good processor (400mhz+) and decent RAM, otherwise it can be pretty clunky.
You can load apps on there that make it as good or better than the iPhone in terms of user interface (ie. 'Touch'-like response to moving your thumb across the screen). That + sync with Outlook, Office and Google Calendar make it the top choice for me.

Just can't find a WM phone that lasts longer than 7 hours for me. The emails never seem to work properly for me.
I just couldn't get into it. The battery power is the worst though.

A lot of the trouble I've heard about (besides horrible battery life) revolves around software stability in the sense that they're prone to freezing. Even without having programs loaded on the device I've heard horror stories about stability. Myself however, have not had a problem with any device I've owned, WM or RIM

Eric what do these skins look like? In the photos its just the phone, no skin (unless its clear or something).
As for WM. Ive had it and I loved it. My roommate just got the Tilt from ATT i think its the htc 8925 and it is waaaaay better than 8125 that i had years back. Snappier, smaller and all. As far as battery life goes. My 8125 would last at least 2 days with heavy usage (internet, email, calls, texting) so battery life was amazing for me at least. I just got the curve because it was free and I really want to get a feel of this new blackberry craze... It should be arriving today. Im excited. :D

It's a clear sticker like skin. It's supposedly the same material they use on helicopter blades to prevent scratching/nicks. The best part is that you don't even know it's there!

wow, how easy is it to install?
-
-
They're not the easiest but it's not too bad. What you have to do is get some warm water and put just a tiny bit of dish soap in it. It's best if you have it in a little spray bottle. You coat the sticky side of the skin with the spray and apply it to a clean device. The spray allows you to slide it into position. Then use a squeegee of some sort, possibly a credit card, to squeegee the skin flat and remove excess water. Carefully put all sides of the skin on and then let it sit for as long as you can (a few hours should do the trick but be careful with it for 24 hours) as it sets. Boomshakalaka...protected device.

Just FYI, they can't be that hard because I've got one on my MacBook Pro, my iPod, my BlackBerry 8830, and my wife's iPod. I wouldn't have went through the trouble more than once if it was too much of a pain.

wow, theyre that good huh? do they ever come off?
-
-
Hmm, never had a stability or freezing problem. With WM6 I get some responsiveness issues sometimes with the programmable buttons, but never with the touchscreen.
It can be quite a battery hog if you've got all the wireless gadgets on all the time (including GPS), but mine lasts 2-3 days of moderate use (5-10 brief calls a day) + some wifi usage. I typically leave bluetooth on the whole time.
