Internet & Tech: Blackberry Justification

Can't decide if I should get a Blackberry. (Lifestyle inflation?)
I sit at a computer all day long, so I have access to my email pretty much all day long. I don't currently run a true business online -- I blog and have paid sponsorships/ads on the site. That is what I need to respond to quickly.
In the future, I would like to sell something online... but have the mental issue of "wow, someone else is already selling there" and "where the hell do I get a supplier?"
But it is a goal in the future to have something like this.
I currently earn $400-600 pre-tax from blogging... I need to incorporate so I can start deducting things, but for now to be safe I am setting aside 25% for taxes, so $300-$450 net.
I've talked it over with the wifey and if I can save up 12 months worth of Blackberry expense (like the change in our bill), then I've got the go ahead.
But do I need it?
What would you do?
If I do get one, I'm sticking with our Verizon service. Would you recommend:
1. Wait until our new every 18 months deal kicks in to save some money, or

2. Wait until the BB Thunder or BB Bold comes to Verizon and drops the price of the Curve
3. Buy the Curve now
4. Save up and buy the Bold -
Wait and buy a Curve on Craigslist when they start showing up on there. Don't extend your contract...that's always a bad idea (IMHO).

I have had a blackberry for more years than I care to remember, and I think they are awesome!
I have treid to move away from a blackberry, but it adds so much convinience and I can reply quickly and really be on the ball.
The added expense is worth it in my opinion, I may be biased as I have spent the last 6 years selling them. But I definately know how much they can change peoples lives!

I just added e-mail to my HTC TyTN II (aka ATT Tilt), and I find myself using it frequently. I already used it to schedule my life (shared calendar with my wife via Google calendar, tasks, etc.) and I find having e-mail when I'm hanging around somewhere in line is a big timesaver. I also know when to turn it off/leave it at home, so I can enjoy feeling 'disconnected'.
I like Eric's plan - pick up a used Curve. When your contract expires, switch to a GSM network so you never face this dilemma again! In my opinion, phone and contract should always be separate decisions.

Phone and contract are not tied together on CDMA either, so its not just GSM.

Our craigslist is not as active as I would like, and I've seen phones on there for more than $200... when I could pretty much buy it new for that much.
I doubt we'll leave Verizon. Best network in our area by far.
So general consensus is to get a BB (Curve) now?

Seems like it, I have the 8330 (curve) and I love it. Best designed blackberry by far.
Who know how good the touchscreen one will be anyway. If the typing is anything like the iPhone I wouldn't even consider it.

Same here. I can't stand the iPhone's typing. I need the buttons.

I have a Curve. I absolutely LOVE the phone. Its amazing. Great for business. What service are you with? Get ATT. Now.

My mistake... in Canada all the CDMA networks' phones are locked to that network, so you can't take one from one network and use it on another.

That holds true in the US, the flash their phone with software overtop. All Rogers phones are like that in Canada as well!

Rogers is GSM. The CDMA networks (Telus, Bell) will not allow you to take a phone from another network and use it on theirs (i.e. no flashing).

I have put a verizon phone on MTS many times.

Hmm, since they're Manitoba only I don't know their policy. All I know is the nationals won't do it. You could try and get a third party to mod it, but I've never tried that. It was easier to switch to Rogers and by a phone from wherever.

Bell should work.
But I get where you are going, I used to work for Rogers! I managed a store here.

^^ yup, thinking about getting it...

yuck crapberries... lol but then I'm biased. There's a Nokia E71 coming that will work on ATT's 3G

I think the iPhone's seamless web browser outweighs any drawback from key-stroke difficulty (which you get used to after a week).
Currently I have a Palm Centro (my wife has an iPhone), but since I use so many web apps (like Basecamp, Backpack, etc), I'll be switching to the iPhone soon.
(and the new $199 price tag doesn't hurt)
